Our Story

OakCity Church has been on God’s heart from the very beginning. It is being and will continue to be shaped and lead by Him.

In 2017, Steve and Melissa visited Toronto on a business trip. They felt compelled to visit a city on the map that drew their attention because of its name,  having a very specific and personal connection to them from God. It was while they were there and through a series of divine events leading them to that point, they sensed God’s heart to move them to Oakville Ontario to plant a new testament church. God confirmed this to them in many ways. In much prayer and counsel with the eldership team they were apart-of at Cornerstone Church in South Africa, they moved forward in faith and obedience and began the process to apply for residency in Canada. The process took two years and God opened the way. Upon arriving in August 2019 and settling down, God began to connect them in friendship to other mature believers in different ways and through different circumstances which has ultimately lead to a core group of passionate Jesus followers who are now involved in planting OakCity Church.

OakCity started meeting in their home in January 2020, moving onto an online connection at the start of a COVID-19, a global pandemic. Summer 2020 was spent meeting together in a local park, going back online for another COVID-19 lockdown and then into a wonderful church facility, miraculously provided by God, in the heart of Oakville.

Steve is a bi-vocational leader, leading OakCity Church while also working in the market place in Toronto. As a family with their two sons they are actively pursuing Christ and His call and anticipate God to continue to do all He has said: to plant and establish OakCity Church; to raise and release leaders in the life of the church as well as grow many more new believers into His family. This is just the beginning of what God is doing! If you want to be a part of it, come and join us, all are welcome!

OakCity Church works in friendship and partnership with Cornerstone Church, in Johannesburg South Africa and in a larger context with New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI). Read more about that under Partnerships.

They will be called Oaks of Righteousness,
 a planting of the Lord
for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
t that have been devastated for generations.
Isaiah 61

Our mission is quite simply the great commission. Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to all we can, making disciples in Oakville and in the nations.
